REMARKS ON BEHALF OF CONGRESSMAN STEVE ROTHMAN
DELIVERED BY MAYOR DAVID GANZ
DEMOCRATIC STATE COMMITTEE
FRIDAY, JUNE 28, 2002

Thank You All Very Much for Coming out this Morning to this Breakfast, Which Has Been Put Together by My Dear Friend, Congressman Steve Rothman and His House Colleague Rush Holt.

Unfortunately, Steve Cannot Be with Us Today Due to Votes in Washington Where He Is Fighting for You, but He Has Asked Me to Say a Few Words on His Behalf.

Before I Go Any Further, Steve Wanted Me to Say Hello to All of the Elected Officials Here Today, Including the Mayors, Council Members, County Executives, Freeholders, Democratic County Committeemen and Women, and All Friends of the Democratic Party, Especially All of His Dear Friends and Neighbors in Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic Counties.

Steve Did a Great Job as the Mayor of Englewood, New Jersey, and as Bergen County Surrogate Court Judge.

He Is Now Completing His Third Term in the United States House of Representatives.

He Has Been a Leader on Education, Health Care, Protecting Social Security, and on Keeping Our Air and Water Clean. He Has Also Devoted Himself to Quality of Life Issues Such as Aircraft Noise and Overcrowded Roadways.

Many of You May Remember Him from His Role in the Impeachment Hearings, When as a Member of the House Judiciary Committee He Gained the Respect of All His Colleagues for Being a Voice of Reason.

Now as a Member of the Powerful House Appropriations Committee, Steve Has Delivered the Federal Dollars That New Jersey Needs for the Projects That it Values.

Last Year, His First on the Committee, Steve Brought Home Millions to Improve Our Roadways and Free Them from Traffic Gridlock, Develop Light Rail, Secure Our Schools, Protect Our Environment, and Improve Our Hospitals.

But What Steve Really Wanted Me to Talk about Today Was How Important this November Is for All of Us.

As You May Know, I Am Running for Bergen County Freeholder along with Bernadette Mcpherson.

Steve Is Very Excited for Our Entire Ticket Which of Course Is Led by Senator Bob Torricelli, Steve Himself, Anne Sumers Who Is Running for Marge Roukema's Seat, along with Our next County Executive Dennis Mcnerney, and of Course the Many Mayor and Council Races as Well.

And That's Just in Bergen County. There Are Local Races Throughout the State.

In Washington, the Entire House of Representatives Is up as Is a Third of the Senate, Including Bob Torricelli.

This Election Will Not Only Determine the Future of Our Counties and State, but it Will Determine the Future of this Nation.

If You Want to Know the Reasons Why Democrats must Win this November, Just Ask Yourself These Questions.

Do You Want to Save Social Security or Do You Want to Privatize It?

Do You Want to Spend Money on a Prescription Drug Benefit for Our Seniors or Do You Want to Throw it Away in a Reckless Tax Cut That Benefits Only the Richest of the Rich?

Do You Want to Preserve Open Space or Do You Want to Allow Huge Corporations to Pollute the Air That We in New Jersey Breathe?

Those Are Just a Few of the Issues at Hand in this Election.

On Behalf of Congressman Steve Rothman, Thank You for Coming Today and Thank You for Your Involvement in the Democratic Party.

As Democrats, We Need to Win in November and Your Activeness this Cycle Can Make That a Reality. Thank You.
